You have found the home of your dreams! What comes next? The next step is to make an offer to purchase the property. The offer should be in writing. When you write the offer make sure to include a time limit for the seller to respond to the offer.
The seller can choose to accept an offer, or they can choose not to respond. In this case, no news means NO. The seller can also reject the offer. If that happens you can always make another offer, or start looking for a different house. In many cases a seller will make a counter offer, which means that the seller returns the offer with some changes. You can choose to accept the counter offer or you can choose to counter with with your next offer. This back and forth of countering will last until an agreement is made and both sides are happy, or until one party quits.
If the seller does come back with a counter offer that is usually a good sign. That means that your offer was close to what they are willing to accept as far as terms, and price.
When an offer is finally accepted make sure that both parties have a copy of the agreement.
